All of our events are currently being held VIRTUALLY via Zoom, in order to protect the health and safety of our members and community.
Guild events include:
- Monthly General Meeting, held on the 2nd Thursday of the month
- Open Sew sessions, held every Saturday
- Focused activities and discussions, held on the 1st and 5th Thursdays, via SVMQG Digital
- BOM instruction and sew-along, held on the 3rd Thursday of the month
- Member Show & Tell, held on the 4th Thursday of the month
- In-person and Virtual sewing Retreats, held annually in the Spring and Fall
Guild events are for SVMQG members only. If you are interested in attending one of our events, please email us to attend as a guest, or consider joining our guild.
Our main Guild Meeting includes specific programming each month, including educational or informational lectures and demonstrations.
Every meeting also covers updates from the Leadership Team and check-ins on ongoing projects like Challenges, BOM, and Charity donations.
The guild hosts Sew Days on a weekend day where members bring their machines and projects and enjoy a fun time sewing with friends! All of our sew days are “open sew” format. This means you can come and bring whatever you’d like to sew on for that day. 🙂 We do sometimes schedule special Sew Days for sewing charity projects, common items, or even not sew at all…
Themed Sew Days – On “themed” Sew Days, members may choose to work on a specific project (bags, aprons, garments, free motion practice, etc.) that falls under the theme for that day, and other members are on-hand to help each other out. On other days, our Philanthropy VP will arrange an optional charity project that members may choose to work on. These themed sew days piggyback on our normal sew days.
Photo-taking Days – Sometimes we forego the sewing room and venture out into the local area to photograph our projects. Members bring their cameras or smartphones and help each other to stage beautiful photographs of their quilts and handmade items.
To keep our members connected between Monthly Meetings, the guild offers a variety of events hosted digitally via Zoom. These events include rotating topics as well as recurring events each month.
Dedicated sessions focused on activities, discussions, shared projects, and advice. Past events have included project sew-alongs, quilting advice, social media workshops, and more. For a larger sampling of events, or to suggest a topic, check out the SVMQG Digital page.
BOM Sew Lab
Our Block-of-the-Month Chair meets with participants over Zoom to walk through each month’s block, providing tips and advice as members share their finished blocks and experiences.
Show & Tell
Members upload photos of finished projects to a shared folder that is then shared as a slideshow to attendees as the maker shares details about their project.
Each year, the guild organizes a Sewing Retreat in the local area. Approximately 24 members bring their machines, materials, and whatever projects they choose to work on and, over a 4-day weekend, socialize with other attendees in a secluded location. To get an idea of some of our past retreats, check out our blog.
The guild has also now added a Virtual Retreat conducted over Zoom. Attendees participate in the same activities, but from the comfort of their own home, with added group activities to keep people connected and engaged. Our Virtual Retreat website serves as the hub the event.
